Background

Sweet Blackberry is a  501(c)(3)  organization founded by actor/writer Karyn Parsons, best known for her role on the television series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. With the mission of bringing little-known stories of African-American achievement to children everywhere, Sweet Blackberry creates content highlighting these stories and allowing parents and educators to bring this missing chapter of American history closer to young minds.

Scope of work

  • Pitch deck design and collateral, to raise funds to produce the film Dancing in the Light: The Janet Collins Story, an animated film about the inspiring story of the first African American prima ballerina and is narrated by actor and comedian Chris Rock
     

  • Sponsorship/fundraising deck for the organization 
     

  • Prescriptive storyboards to facilitate the film distribution of Sweet Blackberry films with Netflix

 

Results

  • Funding goals were met for the production and release of the film, Dancing in the Light: The Janet Collins Story. The film went on to earn a 'Parents’ Choice Gold Award.'
     

  • The organization continues to create its important work. Sweet Blackberry is currently developing its fourth animated short about the inspiring story of Bessie Coleman, the first African-American female pilot
     

  • All three of Sweet Blackberry's films are now streaming on Netflix
